Stone balancing feels like magic to me. I tend to hold my breath when balancing, which I’m sure is counterproductive. But, when the stones align and I breathe again, I can almost see the aura of energy that holds the tower of stones in place. Achieving balance makes me feel like I can accomplish just about anything, if only for a moment.
To better explain this uplifting phenomenon, I refer to a quote by Master Stonemason, Tomas Lipps – “Balancing stones requires sensitivity, poise, physical coordination and a concentration of attention that results in what might be termed an existential state of being. It is, or can be, meditation, a physical feat, a creative challenge, an art.”
The more I practice stone balancing, the more it feels like all of these things rolled into one. Last summer, when I first decided to cast a few colorful crystal stones in my studio, I had no idea I’d get so hooked on balancing. At the time, I knew very little about stone balancing or the delightful community of people around the world who create daily. I can’t help but think of them when I work and practice myself.
