Completed on commission from a pre-conceived drawing, “Summer Home” is the second completed sculpture of four in the seasonal “Home” series. More complex than my previous designs, the aquamarine butterflies had to be cast separately and then added to the larger wax model for final casting. Sometimes the magic of casting occurs deep inside the plaster mold, when the glass is molten and out of the artist’s control. During the melting process, the lime green crystal of the branch seeped into the aquamarine butterflies for a lush blend of color that unexpectedly ties them together. 14″x14”x8”
